The Final leg

The Final leg

Since 2014 I have cycled almost 70,000 miles including trips to Europe and a circumnavigation of Ireland. In various legs I’ve cycled most of the way around the island of Britain and am now left only with the top left corner, north west Scotland and England down to the Welsh border where I ended my journey around the Welsh coast in 2020. Now, in my seventy-eighth year, it’s time to complete the circuit, appropriate in the year that the King Charles III Coastal path has been opened. Starting on 22nd May, I shall take a couple of trains to Thurso and then start cycling along the north coast of Scotland. Turning the corner, I’ll make my way south, doing a bit of island hopping on the way, before following the coast of Cumbria and Lancashire and, all being well, arriving in Chester 19 days and about 1150 miles, later. A train from Chester should see me home on 11th June. Follow my progress daily at bailward.co.uk.

I’m supporting Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance, one of 21 air ambulances in the UK, as the service they provide is entirely funded by charitable giving; by people like you. Last year, they attended 2,954 incidents, with each mission costing approximately £3,500.

Please join me in helping to raise funds for this life-saving service. With your generous support, they can be there for you if you have a problem.
